Syaoran comes originally from Hong Kong, from a wealthy family. Once Sakura starts to collect the Clow Cards, Syaoran comes to Tomoeda from Hong Kong to claim the cards for himself. Being a descendant of Clow Reed, Syaoran believes the cards are rightfully his and resents Sakura's taking the cards for herself. At first he is an adversary of Sakura's and with strong magical powers, he is also a contender as a cardcaptor. Eventually he comes to respect Sakura's strength and capabilities. Syaoran lives at an apartment with a family servant Wei who sees to his well being. Away from his family, Syaoran is lonely in Japan, but he doesn't allow others to see his feelings. Becoming more involved with Sakura and her circle of friends makes him very uncomfortable. When his cousin Meilin comes from Hong Kong and joins him, he starts to open up more, but not necessarily by his own choice.
